WHAT IS YOUR PREPARATION TOWARDS A SEASON?

  • Be clear on what I want to improve at and how and who I will need to help me achieve that
  • Set clear goals that are process orientated

WHAT IS YOUR GAME DAY ROUTINE?

  • Relaxed morning with a big breakfast
  • Swim if possible
  • Regular hydration
  • Remind myself about what is important to focus on the night before game

WHAT HELPS YOU FOCUS PRIOR AND DURING A CONTEST?

Clarity of mind.

I make sure I keep bringing my attention to what I can control; eg work rate, concentration, communication

WhEN YOU ARE AT A LOW POINT OR SLUMP DURING A SEASON, WHO AND WHAT GETS YOU OVER THE HURDLE?

Self reflection is a powerful tool that I use regularly in the form of journaling. It helps me bring clarity and connection to what is important and to refocus on what I want to be known for.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED THAT STICKS WITH YOU THROUGH TOUGH TIMES?

It’s hard to beat someone who never gives up.

DURING A CONTEST, WHEN THE GAME IS GOING AGAINST YOU, WHAT HELPS YOU REST AND REFOCUS?

Coming back to ‘what’ you can control and letting go of ‘why’ is this happening to me.

ANY ADVICE FOR THE FUTURE PROFESSIONALS THAT MAY READ THIS CONVERSATION?

Don’t underestimate the power of reflection, particularly if you are a bit of an over thinker. It can help slow the busy mind down and bring clarity to what you should be focussing on and training most.
